Name of Course: Earth Science
Learning Facilitator: Jeffrey Holte
Number of Students: 10
Days we Meet: Monday/Tuesday
Advanced Enrichment Dates: August 11-October 17, 2014
Course Description: On the first day of our Advanced Enrichment we were all so excited to study about Earth Science. Earth Science means to study about the Earth and all of the things that are related to the environment and the Earth. In our Advanced Enrichment we studied about the rocks, water, weather and all of the planets in space. In Earth Science class we not just only studied and got the theory from the teacher, we also made an experiment together in class. For example, the thing that we have been experimenting with is making the sugar crystal experiment, the erosion and some other activity. Our group helps each other and works together as a team, not work alone and always listen to the teacher. At the end of our Advanced Enrichment we all were a little bit sad because we all wanted to study more about all of the things on Earth and all of the things that are really special for the Earth.
Here is some information that I wrote about the rock. It not very good, and some of the was uncompleted but I putted it because I want to show how well I can take notes on science.
This is the rock that I had been doing research on.
Obsidian Rock
-Obsidian is the rock that have colour deep black
-it a nature rock because it glassy appearance
-When it breaked it very sharp.
-70% of the obsidian was made from silica
-Obsidian can only form near active Volcano
-Some time when the Volcano exploded the Obsidian made from that
-The best obsidian is formed underground near a volcanic vent because those rocks will have limited impurities.
-Tiny gas bubbles that trap water are a part of every obsidian rock.
-Although most rocks that form in the Earth’s crust are very old, obsidian is rarely older than 20 million years old which is young for a rock.
-Obsidian goes through a process called devitrification whereby it turns from glass to a rock.
–Obsidian is commonly used during surgical procedures because it is often sharper than traditional surgical tools.( use for when the doctor treatment)
– Obsidian is used as a gemstone in jewelry.
By Samady,
Rose Quartz Stone
– beautiful color
– second most abundant mineral in the Earth continental crust, after feldspar( a lot of Rose Quartz)
– some people call it Love Stone
– Rose Quartz the type of Rough Gemstone
– it made up of SiO4, silicon, oxygen tetrahedral
– most people take it to make a jewelry
– pink stone
– popular crystal
– pendulum, sphere, the shape of Rose Quartz Stone
– use for draw
By Niron
Slate Rock
– come from the Metamorphic Rock
– roof of the house
– the flour in the house
– It have almost every waterfall
– that shape easy to broke because it soft
– they have different color
By Panharith
Anthracite Coal
– hard, shiny,black
– Metamorphic rock
– burn to make a electricity, heat
– 2006, cuns, 6,000,000,000,000 kilogram
– 70% of China’s electricity come from Coal
– 40% of the world’s electricity come from Coal
– Coal mostly found in United State
– 28%, US, Germany 5%, 13% China, 7% Indian, 18% Russia, 9% Australia, 20% rest of the world
By Souyeth
Chalcopyrite
– it is a rock
– yellow color
– heavy and hard
– it really be friends with gold
– fool gold
BY Maya
Specular Hematite
– mineral of the iron
– black, gray, silver
– the gray one mostly found in Yellowstone Pack,
– come from Volcano
– most important for Iron or make steel
– the really heavy one is 5 SG( don’t know what is SG is?)
– it can occur(made) without water,
By Sokea
Oil shale
– people break the Oil shale to get a oil
– Oil shale can burn
– make from Lava
– can make gas
– find near mountain, or big rock
By David
Garnet schist
– gray rock
– metamorphic rock
– use for: Water jet cutting, 35%, Abrasive Blasting, 30%, Water filtration 20%, abrasive – – – — Powder 10%, other is 5%
– have tiny crystal inside
By Srey Leap
Phomist Rock
– lightly
– float because have a hole,
– it not smooth
– use to clean the foot, smooth foot

This is the information about Solar Systems that I take a note from my classmate:
Sun
Is lonely because if something go near it will melt
1,Mercury
- use 88 day to move around the sun, very hot
- at night very cold and at day very hot, if u go you will die ( -173 degrees, -128 Fahrenheit)
- 427 degrees
2,Venus
- morning star and evening star
- 244 day of earth =1 day of Venus
- very hottest planet
- 108,200,00 km far from the planet
- 4 smallest planet
- 462 degrees
- hot enough to melt the lead,
3,Earth
- ocean,land
- 365 days to rotate around the sun
- Blue planet
- have moon
- 4.54 billion year old
- 78% of nitrogen
- 21% of oxygen
- 23.934 hour to rotate, but they estimate 24 hour
- diameter 7,926 miles
- highest 136 OF, and coldest -128 OF, and average of temperature of earth is 57 OF
4,Mar
- Red planet
- largest volcano
- gravity half of earth
- if u jump one height of the earth, in the mar you jump three high
5,Jupiter
- biggest planet
- 10 hours to rotate around the sun
- has a lot of gravity
- 100 pound of Earth, 240 pound of Jupiter
6,Saturn
- 2nd biggest planet
- highest no moon
- full of gas
- name: Roman god of farming
7,Uranus
- very far from the sun
- cool planet
- name from: Roman god of sky
8,Neptune
- far from the sun
- can not see with the eye
- 165 years to rotate around the sun
- strongest wind
- blue color on the body it mean the methane gas
