Cambodia Past Factories
This is the form that I had submitted for my project called Independent Discovery.
When I was at home, I was watching TV about the Khmer Rouge regime. I saw old factories, machine and some other special materials that were different from now a lot. I want to bring back those by sharing information on a website or on my blog. If I can make a video, it will be great but I don’t know how can I take the video clip of the old materials because most of them were gone. This discovery want to show how the factories at the past look like and what material that they take to
make shoes, or clothes, etc. I would take the information from internet, interview people, or asking expert about it. I have a plan to visit the old Khmer place because maybe there’s some pictures of the old material in the past.
August 13
I did the research about the factories in Cambodia that made by King Norodom Seyhanouk and I got some of them. (You can check in my blog to see what they are.)
August 15
I finish the research about the factories and crop the pictures from the video I watched. It hard sometimes because I had to quickly stop the video to crop the picture I want. I got a lot of pictures and I will find more information about the material that they use in the factory. It seem that there’s no website that talk about the material, or information about the factories at the past.
August 20
I will find the book in the library about the factories in Cambodia, but I don’t think there are any of the book about that. I had found a book, but it was not related to the factories at all, but I just borrow it because some of them talk about Cambodian history and economics.
This is really hard for me because I don’t the plan what I am going to do for today, or next week.
I will research about the current factories, and compare between the past factories and current factories. But the factories that I found is monitored by BFC(Better Factory in Cambodia), there are a ton of them-but I don’t know is that a real factories, or just companies….(546) Factories monitored by BFC
August 27
I emailed to some facilitators and REs to help me research about the info. They also can tell me their own experience. I made a google form and share to the students or print it out to ask them what do they know about factories, maybe they can call to their parents to ask on weekend. For day students I will ask them to ask their family(grandparents) about old materials and factories. I created a document to write about factories description and will sent email to the students about asking their family on weekend including days students
September 3
It a bit seem that no one care about my form that I sent to them. There’s only five students reply my form, but one student submitted the form but didn’t do anything(always said no in my questions) and another student just tell me the name of the factory and just say no for the rest of the questions. Now I really stress, but now I am starting to make a blog. I wrote introduction, translate Khmer to English and I will need help from Khmer teachers. I also do more research about the past factory. I didn’t have anything for the past factory(even one point). But what I’m going to do! No problem, let try again. Now I do research about the old factory and started to write the description for it.
September 10
I make a plan to go outside to interview people about the past factories. I may need some students to help me and so I create a survey to ask the students who would like to volunteer to help me. I’d sent a request to my facilitator to help me with the material I need, but I had to meet her, so I can get it before the day I go to interview. I really need the information about the each factory that I’d researched because there’s no any information for the factories. I started to make a blog.
September 17
Today I am going to create some questions ready for tomorrow(Tomorrow I and my other friends will go out the campus to interview people). I need to go to library to ask Mak Nou, for the material that I need. The problem is Mak Nou is not here. Why there’s always problem!? I had sent emailed to ask for permission from Dom, Mr.Jeff, Mak Theary. Honestly I didn’t know what to do when we want to go outside of Liger, what kind of procedure. I had talked to Theary, Mary, they are okay for me to go outside with the students and Mak Theary will do the Trello for me. I hope this work. Now, the thing is I didn’t create any question at all because I was so busy with the requesting to go outside LLC tomorrow. And now I am succeed, just need to talk with the students.
September 24
I collected the data from my survey outside Liger campus about factories, I hope that can help me a lot.
October 1
Today is the other of my Independent Discovery. I got new mentor which was my teacher, Phearun. He help me a lot with this. I’d finished translate all the factories names. I’d sent email to the students to ask can they help me to research about past factories when they go to holiday next week.

Hi, I am Samady…You know me, of cause…
It nearly time for holiday, I just want to need some help from you guy with my Ind.Discovery. I of cause still continue my factory project because I think I didn’t get enough information for the blog that I will make to share the world.
On the holiday, I would love you all to ask your grandparents, parents, or someone that old, or young, or anyone that knows about past factories. Get those information, anything, even small piece.(what time did it made, who made it, what does it do, ) etc.
Don’t worry about what will you going to ask, because you have your brain to help you and also I will make a document, print it out and give it to you, to write down the info. I am so sorry, that I give the HW to you because I know that it only one week long for your relaxing times.

October 8
Today is the last day, and we have break for Pjum Ben ceremony. I had created the document and printed it out to the students, so they can ask their family, villages. I handed them to the students, each receive a paper. When I gave the paper to the students, some of them were normal faces, but some of them, didn’t like at all, I think I did gave extra HW for them, sometimes I feel so bad because no one help me, I understand what their feeling, but
