Trip to Kompot Reader Writer Festival

I went to an event called Kompot Reader Writer Festival which was located at Kompot. It was such a fun experience and I learned a lot! I got to meet amazing people, example the author of a book called “Holiday in Cambodia”. I asked her lots of questions. The first day we went to the open ceremony. We saw the U.S embassador and more professional people. I also saw the man who performed us musics. His story was really unique when I heard it and it probably inspired me a lot. The story was about Khmer Rouge, on how music saved his life. I also saw a lot of arts. I learned about climate change, on how it’s affecting human lives including waste management. I think I ate a lot of dumplings, a lot of them. Anyway, oh no – I also listen to a woman talked about Khmer Rouge, and Liger also present about Animal/Economic book! There also a very bad thing I saw when I went there. Guess what, I saw 3 accidents, and the last accident was really terrifying! But probably, you don’t want to hear about it.

Halloween

We didn’t really have Halloween in Cambodia, but I joined this event in Phnom Penh (Cambodia Sing). I listened to songs, listen to my friend perform a song and also went to a hunted house. The hunted house was amazing, and creepy but I didn’t yell, trying to calm myself down. It was very cool, such a fun experience, and my first time to go into a hunted house.

FILM – making

dsc01889

Film Making was an independent expertise that I had. I did it because I need times to make a movie so I can join the Phnom Penh Youth Film Festival (PPYFF). I spend times in class to write the script for the movie and casting characters for my movie. The other time I started calling people to act. Making a movie isn’t easy. I think I was being a really bad director, well because it’s my first time. During filming, there are some problems- you know all the fight, arguing, and my friends also didn’t have much time to act in this movie, they got other things to do also. But I just need to get through it. I was also producing the movie, it’s hard for me to find times to shoot the scenes. It’s kind of hard when I worked alone. I don’t have team like others because I wasn’t in the Film Making group. Also I don’t have a lot of times like others because I started the film while the other team already finished shooting their movie. Anyway, I finally edited the movie, it was done and I submitted it to the PPYFF website. But the worse thing happened. And I felt so sorry to my teacher, Rich. He was the one who organized the event, he also helped me to delay the date that competitors need to submit their movie. My movie didn’t get to show at the ISPP black box theater- it’s not because it isn’t a good movie but there another reason. I felt kind of mad and sad because all the hard work that I putt into this movie worth nothing and also my friends that helped me in this movie might feel very disappointed- but that’s okay because I understand why my movie didn’t get to show at there and also it was my fault- I shouldn’t blame anyone for this, it’s in the past. I will definitely join the 2017 PPYFF.

ISPP Model United Nation 2016

The video I made above is about Liger Team participated at the ISPPMUN2016. Making this video was really hard for me than usual, and I hope you enjoy the video.

This is probably one of the best events I joined. Model United Nation at the International School of Phnom Penh was an event I participated on the weekend. Model United Nation was an event that each person represent each country and talk about their country related to the topic, what the position is the country toward the topic. The three topics that my Junior General Assembly were focusing on are Deforestation in Southeast Asia, Feeding the World’s Growing Billion and the question of returning the cultural artifacts back to their country of origin.

I’m the delegate of Australia.

On Friday evening, we just did the open ceremony where the director of ISPP gave us a speech about this world, we need to find a solution toward the fairer world and there are many more speakers that gave a speech to start the ceremony. There are a lot of people participates, some schools are from Vietnam and Singapore. After the speech finished, I felt kind of nervous because it’s time for us to go to our room and meet all the delegates. I went to a room that labeled B108. I sat down where the plat card wrote “Australia” and an Australia flag on the table. First, the Chairs introduced us the rules at MUN. I don’t understand much, basically I felt like I was a new kid learning in a new school. At the end of the presentation, the Chair do the roll-call. When they called my name, I raised my plat card and said “present and voting”. I was then called to go up and do the opening speech. The opening speech went pretty bad for me because I was too nervous and forgot my script. After 30 seconds, the Chair knock the thing on the table – I was shocked and thought that it was time. So I don’t say anything. They told me to continue. I continued, but guess what I forgot everything. I spoke for about 2-3 lines and then it’s time, the Chair told me to finish my speech but I don’t really heard them so I just went back to chair and sat down. That’s probably one of the most embarrassing moments I had, but also a lesson I should learn from. The rest of the opening speech by the rest of the delegates went pretty well, really well except the delegate of Canada which he was a bit fainted. But I appreciate every delegates there, they were so confident. At the end of the night, we started to find the countries who supports the resolution to be our co-submitter so that our resolution has the possibility to pass.

dsc_1100

Tomorrow, I came back for the event. The second day, we’re focusing on the resolution again. I was the main-submitter for Feeding the World’s Growing Billions. I tried to ask the delegates if they wanted to be the co-submitter and I got some! And then I wrote all the solutions for the topic on how can we help the hungry people, reducing food waste with the help from the other delegates. I then checked the resolution with the teachers who came to MUN. Then it was time for us to debate. I was late for it though, and at the time the delegate of China which was the main-submitter talked about Deforestation in Southeast Asia. I don’t really know how it work. When the Chair asked the delegates if they wanted to talk about the resolution as a whole, I raised my plat card. I went up there, and started to talk. When I was in the middle of the speech, I recognized strange faces from all the delegates then I realized I was on the WRONG topic. I talked about Feeding the World’s Growing Billion. Anyway, I just continue until the end and none of the delegates ask me questions. Then we debated and debated, I think I spoke a lot too but I was really afraid of people asking me questions. I find it hard time to answer them. Sometimes I need to prepare my speech because I’ll got called at any time by the Chairs. We spent the whole day debating, 3 resolutions passed including mine.

My Game Night Team
My Game Night Team

When the night came – we went to the black box theater to play games! It was called as a quiz night where we divided into teams and trying to answer questions. I got such a very good team, everyone seems very friendly but we don’t really collaborate well. I mean, only some people got to see the questions and answered them and some were sitting, looking at them including me. I tried to participate, and it was okay. It was fine and very very fun. I hope that I could play it again. I think, my team came to the fourth place – we got 34 points, while the winner got 36 points.

The next day, was the final day. The Chairs asked us if we wanted to continue debating on the resolutions that didn’t passed, but then we all decided to not debate, but to debate about another topic that not using MUN style. The Chair came up with a topic about using animal for experiment. I got the team where it says we shouldn’t do test on animals. It was very fun and everyone involved in the debate. The closing ceremony came afterward. The closing ceremony happened in the black box theater again where the entire/all delegates came together and debate 2 resolutions. One was about refugee and another one is about landmines. After the debate was finished, all the Chairs given us a short speech about their committee. At the end, they showed us a video that they created for MUN and it was fantastic. When we came back to Liger, I edited a video for Liger Team at the event and shared it to everyone who participated in the ISPPMUN. It was such a very memorable experience and I hope to join again next time.

During weekend, I did some fun stuffs with friends and one day I did this thing…please enjoy watching the video.

Coding

I think I started to like coding and I think I actually sign up for it or something. Anyway, I learned two days, Monday and Tuesday with Alli, our teacher. For the first day of class, Alli tought us some basic code and gave us some exercise to do like, program your friend to do something. About 1 week passed, we started to use code.org to learn how to code. I used to use it before, the hour of code. In that website, I learned how to program my character to do the thing that it wanted us to complete. It was fun, I even create a game from it! A floppy bird game. But then I went to learn code in Code Combat. It is a website where we try to code our character to fight against something or to solve problem. Then I went to more advance coding. I started to learn more about code in Codehs.com . It was also a useful website. I think it’s really really useful. I learned a lot and now I know how to code some basic web page. I know how change the size of the letters, like <h1>Hello World</h1> This is what we saw in the code editor, but if we review it, it’s going to look like this.

Hello World

Liger Economy

As we were getting older, Liger wanted us to be more responsible so Liger are going to have a currency system which made by some of the Liger students. In this Expertise I learned a lot, and here is my note taking in class.

Liger Economy

We are now planning the Liger Currency (pedro).

What we gonna talk about now is money in general, How to manage our own budgets?

A lot of people having problem with borrowing money, loan, manage their money or even save their money.

Money

What is it
Money is any valuable object that is widely used in the purchase and sale of goods and services.

Function in the economy

How to manage our own budgets?
Opportunities we have in Liger
Career

18/August/2016

If money doesn’t exist, we can trade goods.

Barter Problems

Using goods to trade for other goods without using money.

1. Some goods are heavy and hard to transport
2. Some goods don’t last
3. With barter, we need to want what the other person has
4. We need to figure out, how much our good is worth vs all other goods
5. Information is incomplete
6. Some good cannot be divide

Money must be

1. Medium of Exchange

It solves problem #3. I can sell my product for money and use that money to buy what I want. Both people are willing trade for money

2. Unit of account

Now I don’t to measure the quantity of the product. It’s a standard way of measuring value. Now I have a much better idea how much my goods worth. Example: I don’t need to measure 1kg of Dorian equal how much kg for the rice. I just need to said 1kg of dorian 12000 riel.
This answer problem #4.

3. Store of value

Solve problem #2. Money didn’t get lost or rotten like fish. Something put away for a time and still keep its value.

4. Standard of Deferred Payment

A standard way of paying of future debt. Money is denominations (size, measure, different value, be able to divide)

The Value of Money

Commodity Money

Money that made out of something valuable (made from gold). In 1915, the commodity worth $5.

Representative Money

Money that gets its value from being exchangeable into a precious metal like gold and silver.

Fiat Money

Physical currency  authorized by a central bank or governmental body and that does not have to be exchanged for gold or some other commodity money. Backed by nothing but the promise of the Federal Government.

The government said that it is worth this much, and we believe the promise.

Electronic Money

– Does not exist in physical. It’s exist virtually form. Extremely Important for every economy.
Right now, there are more Electronic money than Physical money (much much more);

8/25/2016

How is money created?

We don’t have money, so we’ll do barter. I am the president of the Liger economy. The first thing I do is to create a central bank. Take care of printing, and distribute money. Vuthy will be a central bank management.

1. I create a central Bank, which will be Vuthy

2. Vuthy (Central Bank) will prints papers certificates and decrees the value of each certificate to be 1 pedro (pd) which becomes the national currency in Liger republic. I and Vuthy will say it worth 1 pedro, we guaranty, and we said that.

3. The government will punish someone other than the Liger central bank from printing these certificates. One way for them to get the money is for them to pay government workers. Then they buy assets (buy clothes, fruit, cars), so the money can go to the people.

4. Legal Tender – On every money, there is a legal tender: means here something must be accepted in an exchange of goods and services. I can’t exchange car with Royal D. Government accepted it as payment for taxes. Utah next to Navada, Navada next to California – Utah is a country that have silver as a legal tender

After Khmer Rouge, Cambodia make new currency because at that time it hard to sell assets.
When the government want to introduce the money, they will buy things. When they want to take money back, they sell things example land, clothes, etc.

Role of the central bank

1. Printing and take care of all the currency in the country
2. Creating a money (monetary) policy for the entire country
4.. Monetary Policy – a money plan for the country, he need to decide whether the government need to print more money, or less money. Does it need to take out money for the economy?
5. Setting Interest rates

Right now the interest rates in Cambodia is 1.42%. In U.S, the interest rates only .5%. If I putted money in U.S. bank, I got only  extra .5% of the money I put. Why I got so low in U.S than in Cambodia? It has to do a lot with GDP growth. If the interest rates go high, it hard to borrow money. So they will buy less things. It helps to lower the speed of the economy not to grow quickly.

Sept/15/2016

Each person found about 52,000 dollars a year in America-. 27% of people save 0 money, 22% of people can’t pay 100 dollars, and 46% of people can’t pay 800 dollars.

First bank created electronic bank, and the people borrow money but not all money.

Play in PP

I got to go to a play that happened at a French hotel in Phnom Penh. The actors were foreigners. I don’t really undestand the play and it wasn’t for young kids like us. It was an adult play. One of my favorite things from the play was that I got to see those actors and they were really good actors/actresses. I got shocked when the main actor (a man) screamed for his wife to come back and the part that the family got into a fight. Anyway, we only watched half of the play then we left cause it was too long. Still, it was a very unique experience I got and I think I was really lucky to be there.
