Cooking

This year I did a lot of cooking more than anything else. I spent 7 weeks of Exploration to cook foods, about 4 weeks of expertise for cooking/baking class and another 7 weeks of cooking. So, basically I spent almost 127 hours on cooking/baking! Whereas, I spent only 35 hours on other expertises. I’m sorry if my calculation wrong (it’s just estimate), I’m not good at math-just to let you know. Anyway, in this cooking expertise, we learned from a chef named Matt. He taught us some basic cooking, like how to cut vegetables, fry fish, pouch an egg, etc. We also learned about kitchen safety. We do baked in this class. The last week of this class, we had a test. I did really bad, and I got the lowest score in the team. It was because I was stubborn, I didn’t listened to what my teacher said. We learned cooking because next year, we’ll move to the new Liger campus and cook by ourselves.

Film making with government schools

This class, we teach 12 students from outside Liger campus (government schools) about film making. How to edit, direct, produce, write a screenplay-basically how to make a movie. This project will continue to next year. We did this, so they can join the 2017 Phnom Penh Youth Film Festival. It’s kind of hard to teach the students because they don’t really understand what we are talking about. The students will come to learn about film making at Liger, and we’ll let them use the camera or resources that they need. We will not make a movie for them, but we are supporting them.

BreakThrough

I really love learning about science and current issues around the world. In Breakthrough expertise I got to learn many new things with science like Ebola, water, and age problem (I was missing learning about other topics in Breakthrough because I was taking out of class to learn about cooking expertise). The first week of the Breakthrough was learning about Ebola, and we were watching a video about Ebola (drama). Mostly, they show blood and people dying. One fact that is really interested to me and the one that I alway remember is that Ebola virus can spread into the other part of human body. By saying this I mean: a doctor was got this pandemic disease from a patient and he was cured in the USA. After a while, he getting better and he won the battle fighting against the virus. He thought that he was winning, but actually he’s not. The virus was in his eye (I don’t remember which side). His eye was turning green and he can’t see anything, so he continued the treatment. For what I remembered, right now scientists had figured out a vaccine that can stop this disease but they didn’t try it with human yet. I was feeling kind of sad that I had missed a lot of lessons in Breakthrough and it was a very important/my passionate projects that I really want to learn.

Google Science Fair 2016

Google-science-fairThe Google Science Fair is a global online science and engineering competition open to individuals and teams from ages 13 to 18. This year, I had joined the competition. It was pretty exciting. Let’s take a read here on my Organic Insecticide project. This project wasn’t a success experiment but I hope I can share to the world.

Critical Thinking 12th Feb

I had joined this class for the first time and this is the first expertise that talking about Critical Thinking. I really love this class because it allows me to use my brain, thinking with many different things. The first day of the expertise my teacher wrote 2 sentences on the board. The two sentences are:

2 Click on the picture to see the answer. You should think that there is an option C, not only A, or B.

But when she wrote the first sentence, a student says “The yolk of the egg isn’t white?” My teacher told us that, it was a very quick thinking so she interpreted us about the Critical Thinking. What I had learned are:

Ingredients to Making a Critical Thinker

  1. Tolerance

Being relaxed and accepting many ideas; being open

  1. Analytical Skills

To analyze→ to consider and evaluate all sides of an issue or argument, step by step and organized

  1. Confidence

Trust your instincts and use all your resources/strategy

  1. Curiosity

Being interested and passionate about learning/knowing things

  1. Truth- seeking

Opposite: apathetic (ah.puh.theh.tik) – you don’t care.

Let me walk you through the other examples that I had learned:

City Census Data
85% of men = Cambodia
15% of men= Phnong

One day there a person had been murdered. The witness saw and recognize it is a Phnong men the one who kill the person. The witness went to the chord, the witness told the chord that the murderer is Phnong men, but then the chord test her to show that the witness wrong or right. The chord have many pictures of Cambodian, and Phnong men to ask the witness to guess which one Cambodian and which one is Phnong. The witness only have 5 seconds to see and answer the question. After ended the test, the result was that the witness is 80% right and 20% wrong. So the question is, what do you think the chord should do, go search for Cambodian, or Phnong (which one is the killer). Click to see the answer.
